2016 Children’s HealthWatch Support Letter to USDA Food & Nutrition Service to conduct research on the adequacy of the SNAP benefit

Children's Health Watch

2016

This letter developed by Children’s Health Watch outlines the ineffectual nature of several specific parts of the SNAP program. It describes each point in detail offering up statistics to demonstrate the barriers that are still in place which hamper low-income families from either receiving SNAP benefits or, utilizing them to their fullest extent. Such barriers include the administrative checks necessary to first receive the benefits, to the fact that few cities contain enough healthy eating establishments cheap enough for SNAP holders to use effectively.
